It should come as no surprise to you that I am a huge fan of energy bites… I mean, it really should come as no surprise. My Copycat Lemon Larabar Bites are a huge favorite, followed closely by my Peanut Butter Protein Bliss Bites. Followed closely until today, because these Whole30 Golden Raisin Cashew bites of pure goodness have topped the list!
When I think of raisins, I literally think of those sad Halloween nights when I would dump out the candy from my pillowcase onto the living room floor and I’d see it… a box of raisins?! I had a few neighbors who would pass out “nature’s candy” in place of actual candy.
STOP. Can’t I just have one day to eat my weight in peanut butter cups and Twix bars?!
But today I am putting “nature’s candy” to good use and making energy bites with an extra boost of collagen protein! I’ve been using collagen for a while – adding it into my morning coffee, mixing it into my smoothies, and obviously adding it into recipes likes these golden raisin cashew energy bites.
But you might be wondering, what exactly is collagen and why do we need it?
Collagen is a protein made up of amino acids found throughout our body – our organs and our body’s systems. AND it makes up approximately 30 percent of all the proteins in the body. So you know it’s important. As we age, the amount of collagen in our body decreases, which causes changes in our skin, hair, and nails (what we can see), as well as our digestive system and joints (what we can’t see).
While I love having shiny hair, thick skin, and strong nails (who doesn’t?!), my digestive system and gut health are the most important to me (especially because of my Celiacs!). Dr. Axe‘s Multi Collagen Protein has been a super simple way to incorporate collagen into my daily routine.
And these Whole30 Golden Raisin Cashew Energy Bites are my favorite way to increase my collagen intake!
I love these energy bites for so many reasons, but I always come back to the same few:
- Minimal, easy to find ingredients – this is key.
- Simple to make – duh 😉
- Just sweet enough!
- No bake… just roll and freeze.
If you’re looking to up your collagen game, or just interested in learning more about it and how easily you can incorporate it into your diet, make sure you check out Dr. Axe!
