one serving of homemade stovetop applesauce

Stovetop Applesauce

  • Total Time: 40 mins


  • 7 large apples (peeled, cored, and cut into bite-size chunks)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon


  1. Combine all ingredients in a large pot and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 25 minutes.
  2. While cooking, use a wooden spoon or potato masher to continue to break down the apples as they cook.
  3. Once the applesauce reaches your desired consistency, turn off the heat and let it cool.


I prefer “chunky” applesauce, but you can always use a food processor or blender to puree it until completely smooth.
