If you remember last month’s L&L, you probably remember coming home on a Friday after a long week and pouring yourself an old fashioned, putting on ‘In a Sentimental Mood’ and settling in for a quiet Friday night.

Not this Friday!

Today we are taking things up a notch. Pat and I are headed to Paint the Town Purple – an event in support of the Alzheimer’s Association! It is a cocktail attire affair – I’m planning on wearing black lace pants and a matching black lace top… cocktail attire with a twist 😉 Make sure you follow along on my Instagram; I will be documenting the night (and my outfit) in my stories.

This blackberry ginger smash is a twist on one of my favorite drinks – the Moscow Mule. Start with two blackberries and a splash of simple syrup – muddle those together. Then add one part vodka to 3 parts ginger flavored kombucha. Stir, top with ice, and cheers to the weekend!

But you can’t have a drink without a song! Pat discovered Lapsley through Vinyl Me, Please, a record of the month club. Vinyl Me, Please has been an awesome way to discover new music, buy old and new records, and stay up to date with the latest trends in music. (Note: until VMP, my ability to discover music started and ended with turning on the radio…)

When I first heard this song, I was immediately transported to my childhood – my sisters and I would blast and belt out to Operator by Manhattan Transfer and just about every other Manhattan Transfer song. For those who know the original version, you will love what Lapsley has done with it!

Tell me: What is your favorite cocktail? Are there any drinks you would like to see on Lyrics & Libations?

If you make this blackberry ginger smash (and listen to ‘Operator’!), post a picture on social media and use the hashtag #HBNlyricsandlibations for a chance to be featured!

Vodka Cranberry is my all time favorite, but a Moscow Mule is a very close second. I love the addition of the blackberry and the kombucha! Can’t wait to make this!
