Italy Part 2: Rome and Positano

How was your Thanksgiving?! Are you still deep in your turkey hangover? Mine was wonderful – Pat and I enjoyed a delicious dinner with his family and then drove across town to have dessert with my family. I’m feeling extra lucky and so thankful this year!

Hopefully you’re reading this as you’re sipping your morning coffee and eating breakfast. Maybe you’re making orange glazed cinnamon monkey bread, or baked oatmeal, or … wait for it … waffles made with leftover potatoes. You heard me – scoop some leftover mashed potatoes into your waffle iron, fry up an egg while the waffle is cooking, and revel in the fact that YOU are a Thanksgiving leftover champ.

I thought today would be a wonderful day to share the second half of my trip to Italy with you! I was planning on sharing a Christmas cookie recipe; but I’m guessing the last thing on your mind is more food. That can wait until next week. I will also be sharing a few gift guides in the coming weeks too!

Alright, let’s get back to Italy.

Rome

Our time in Rome was wonderful. But there was so much to see and do, we made sure our days were mapped out and they were broken down like this:

  1. Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill
  2. Vatican and Vatican Museum
  3. Borghese Gallery, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon

There were obviously LOTS of other things we did each day in Rome – mostly walking, eating, shopping, and more eating. The best meal of the trip was in Rome at La Tavernaccia. We had carbonara which was the best pasta dish of my life – and I’m not exaggerating one bit. We also had a veal dish which was so tender and just wonderful. And of course, there was wine.

Positano

After Rome, we were pretty tired of walking (150 miles in 17 days!) and sightseeing. Positano offered very few attractions and we welcomed the two days of total relaxation. We stayed in Airbnbs up to this point and ended our vacay in a fancy-schmany hotel. The view was incredible – both out our window and from the roof. We did nothing for two days but eat, sleep, walk, get a massage, eat a little more, and relax. The perfect end to our trip!
